title = "Surface tension of Bi2O3-B2O 3-SiO2 glass melts",
abstract = "The surface tensions of Bi2O3-B2O 3-SiO2 melts were measured using the ring method over the temperature range 973 to 1573 K. The compositional and temperature dependences of surface tension were investigated. The surface tension decreased with decreasing SiO2/B2O3 ratio and showed a maximum near 50-60 mol% Bi2O3 at 1273 K. Based on the linear relationship between the surface tension and the Bi2O3 content in binary silicate melts, the surface tension factor of Bi 2O3 was calculated and had the value of 206 mN-m -1 at 1673 K. The surface tension values calculated using the surface tension factor of each single component showed a largest deviation near 50-60 mol% Bi2O3 from the measured surface tension values. It was inferred from this result that the deviation may be attributed to the coordination number conversion of BO3 to BO4.",
