N2 - There are some mechanical systems that involve impacts, e.g. vibratory feeders, impact dampers, vibrating screens and so on. Sometimes unwanted low frequency vibration occurs in such vibroimpact systems. This paper regards such vibration as self-excited vibration generated in vibroimpact systems. Experimental and calculated results show that the self-excited vibration occurs in the parameter range where unstable periodic solutions exist. Further numerical simulations demonstrate that distance between a bouncing mass and a main system has an exciting or damping effect on the center of gravity of the system.
