Nonreciprocal directional dichroism in ferroelectric Nd2Ti 2O7

抄録

The nonreciprocal directional dichroism derived from the optical magnetoelectric effect has been investigated for the f-f transitions of Nd 3+ ion in a ferroelectric Nd2Ti2O7 single crystal under magnetic field, in which both space-inversion and time-reversal symmetries are viewed as simultaneously broken. The magnitude of nonreciprocity in each absorption band of Nd3+ was semi-quantitatively elucidated by taking account of the interference between electric dipole and magnetic dipole transitions.
