N2 - We study a 1D spin chain with alternating next-nearest-neighbour coupling. The plateau-nonplateau transition is expected to be of Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless type from the bosonization result at kF=π/4. With the recently developed method, level spectroscopy, we obtain the transition point βc= 0.2988. We also discuss the universality class.
