We propose a new strategy that the nano-layer and nano-film structures built on two types of metal complexes, [CoIII{ph(bu) 2(L)2}]- (ph(bu)2: o-phenylenebisbiuretato, L: axial ligands) and [NiII(bpbg) 2] (bpbg: biphenylbiganidato). These structures have been formed by self-assembling with hydrogen bonding interactions. The crystal structures of [CoIII{ph(bu)2(L)2}]--[Ni II(bpbg)2] have revealed to provide a channel structure changeable according to the size or shape of guest cation molecules. While, treatment of [CoIII{ph(bu)2}]- with C18MeIm+ (C18MeIm+: 1-octadecyl-3-methylimidazolium) in an aqueous solution gave a fluid and metallic silver-colored solution of self-organized membranes. The scanning electron micrographic observation showed the rectangle-shaped nano-film structure (ca. 15 nm hight and 1-6 mm width), suggesting the formation of organic-inorganic composite membrane of [CoIII{Ph(bu) 2}]- and C18MeIm+.
