N2 - Compact on-chip grating coupler for first-order TE-like mode in a strip waveguide is proposed. The grating coupler is used in mode-division multiplexing (MDM) systems to couple light from a single-mode fiber to desired on-chip mode without the need of intermediate mode converters.
