The effects of hydrogen in rare earths on the electrical resistivity and specific heat are investigated for Gd-H solid solution. An anomaly in the temperature dependence of the resistivity and a Schottky-type peak in the specific heat are observed at low temperatures. The data are analysed on the basis of two-level splitting of the hydrogen atomic state. The measured anomaly in the resistivity is similar to those for praseodymium, neodymium, terbium and dysprosium observed previously by other authors. The anomaly in the resistivity of the rare earths at low temperatures can be interpreted in terms of the Stark splitting of the hydrogen impurity level, which can modify the inelastic scattering of the conduction electrons.
