Effect of ultra-grain refinement on the tensile behaviour of an austenitic steel charged with hydrogen

    抄録

The behavior of a metastable austenitic steel was investigated. The chemical composition allows a reversion treatment from martensite to produce different austenite grain sizes (1-65 μm). Cathodic charging was used to investigate the mechanical response of the steel to pre-charged hydrogen, and whether ultra-grain refinement is an effective means to curb hydrogen embrittlement. The ultra-fine grained material retained a ductile behavior despite the large strength increase, with some intergranular surface cracking while the larger grained material showed large areas of brittle cracking. TEM observation showed the effect of hydrogen charging on the dislocation behavior.
