This paper reports simplification of fluidic design of lab-on-a-CD (LabCD) with rotatable reagent cartridge (RRCs) which act as high-performance microvalves. RRC is a column-shaped tank with several reagent rooms, which can be rotated on the LabCD and release only the intended reagent to the connected channel. Compared with the conventional microvalves controlling only a single channel flow, our RRC can regulate multiple reagents. Thus, the RRC can reduce the numbers of valves, channels, and reservoirs to simplify the fluidic system. We demonstrated an enzymatic assay on the LabCD with RRCs, where quantitative analyses of L-lactate were achieved with R2 > 0.999.
