N2 - A metastable Ar beam was produced by electron impact with glow discharge. The Ar(3P2,0) beam intensity was estimated to be ≈ 1 × 1014atoms sr-1 s-1'. Crossing this beam with a CF3H beam, collision-free emission of CF3 in the visible region was observed. The intensity maximum of the newly observed emission band of CF3a was at 610 nm, different from a previously reported value of 565 nm from a flowing afterglow experiment. The cross section of the visible emission of CF3 was ≲ 1 A2, i.e. 0.02 ± 0.01 in terms of the branching fraction for the Ar(3P2,0) quenching.
