N2 - In the last few decades, geothermal energy has received significant attention as a solution for sustainable development. Geothermal resources can be utilized for various direct applications, including microalgae cultivation. Microalgae are a diverse group of microorganisms with significant potential due to their high growth rates and their environmentally friendly by-products. So far, microalgae production has been limited due to several economic and technical limitations. Thus, the present work is focused on different aspects of using geothermal resources for this purpose. Moreover, Kyushu prefectures has been selected to be examined in terms of its potential for Chlorella vulgaris production.
