The reaction of L-alanine (L-ala) with Fe(NO₃)₂·9H₂O in the presence of H₅dhpta (1,3-diamino-2-hydroxypropaneN,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid) and base (NaOH) affords the novel tetranuclear complex Na[Fe₄(dhpta)₂(O)(OH)(L-ala)₂]·6H ₂O having L-alaninato bridges and an (Fe₄(O₂H))⁹⁺ core whose crystal structure and magnetic properties were determined.
