N2 - An anomalously large dielectric permittivity of about ten thousand is found for an LC compound having a 1,3-dioxane unit in the mesogen core part (DIO). Our experimental results suggest that a ferroelectric-like unidirectional parallel polar arrangement of the molecules is generated along the director in an LC phase of DIO.
