Disaster public housing for 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake was completed in March, 2020. Many of the dwelling units constructed for the Great East Japan Earthquake had living-access units. Living-access has the advantage of ease of community formation and monitoring, but care must be taken from the perspective of privacy protection. Disaster public housing in Kumamoto Prefecture is an example of a plan that is different from the past while incorporating the benefits of living-access. In this paper, we investigated the intentions of designers and the actual usage by residents, and considered the effectiveness of floor plans for disaster public housing.
