Abstract

A 76-year-old woman presented at another hospital with the chief complaint of left lower abdominal pain. Transabdominal ultrasonography revealed left hydronephrosis, and the patient then consulted our hospital. Enhanced computed tomography revealed left hydronephrosis and obstruction of the left ureter with herniation into the sciatic foramen. The patient underwent left retrograde pyelography, which revealed a curlicue ureter which is pathognomonic for ureterosciatic hernia. A double J pigtail ureteral stent was placed within the left ureter. The stent was removed after 3 months and no evidence of relapse of the ureterosciatic hernia was found on transabdominal ultrasonography 6 months later.
