Abstract

The UV-vis absorption and resonance Raman spectra of an azobenzene-containing, single-chain ammonium amphiphile were recorded both in strongly acidic aqueous solution (pH -0.8) and in monolayers adsorbed from the aqueous solution to the interface with carbon tetrachloride. Molecular aggregation, the proportion of neutral and protonated species, and the molecular orientation of protonated species in the adsorbed monolayers were discussed.
