Triplet exciton confinement and unconfinement by adjacent hole-transport layers

The triplet energy transfer processes from Ir(ppy) 3 into hole-transport layer (HTL) were investigated. The requirements for the triplet energy level of HTLs need to obtained high electrophosphorescence efficiency were also analyzed. It was found that, in the case of TPD, transient PL measurement revealed that the triple excitons in Ir(ppy) 3 were partilaay confined at room temperature. The results show that, employing 1,1-bis[(di-4-tolylamino)phenyl]cyclohexane (TAPC) as a hole-transport layer achieved strong confinement of the Ir(ppy) 3 triplet exciton.
