Titanium dioxide/electro-optic polymer hybrid rib-waveguide modulators

Abstract

In this study, we report a TiO2/electro-optic polymer hybrid rib-waveguide with a low figure of merit of 4 V·cm, corresponding to 2 V·cm in a traditional push-pull Mach-Zehnder interferometer structure. This low figure of merit results from the 60% improved poling efficiency of our EO polymer in the hybrid structure. The waveguide also possesses a relatively low propagation loss of 3.0 dB/cm and a straightforward fabrication process.
