Abstract

Poly (dehydroalanine)s that have geminal substituent at α-position were synthesized. We have studied the effect of various alkyl groups of the polymers on their phase transition behavior. For PDA 1 series, the cloud points of polymer with iPr at R1 or R2 were higher than those with nPr at R1 or R2. In the combination of two polymers 1 / 3, 2 / 4 R1 and R2 were replased with each other. The cloud points of the polymer with small alkyl groups at R1 were higher than those with smaller ones. On the other hand, the cloud point of PDA 2 series (R1 =Me, R2= nPr) were higher than those of PDA 1series (polymer 1or 3).
