Thermoelectric power of heavy-fermion system YbCu5 - x Agx

Abstract

We present the thermoelectric power, S, of the heavy-fermion system YbCu5 - x Agx with the cubic AuBe5 structure. This system shows systematic variation in the γ value from 210 mJ / ( mol K2 ) for x = 1 to 550 mJ / ( mol K2 ) for x = 0. The S has a pronounced broad negative peak at TS, peak = 20-50 K, which is associated with the Kondo temperature. The magnitude of the ratio of S / T to γ is closed to that of other heavy-fermion compounds. However, the proportional relation between S / T and γ is not found in this system.
