Abstract
Anionic polymerization of styrene derivatives para-substituted with adamantyl groups, 4-(1-adamantyl)styrene and 4-(1-adamantyl)-a-methylstyrene, proceeded quantitatively to afford well-defined polymers. We also attempted to introduce adamantyl group into the phenyl ring of polystyrenes by treatment with adamantyl triflate. The resulting polymers had significantly high Tg and thermal stability due to the introduced adamantyl moieties.
