Synthesis of novel polymers with terpyridine groups with the aim of effective metal assembly

Recently, organic/metallic hybrid polymers have received much attention as functional nanodevices having novel magnetic, spectroscopic and electrochemical properties. Terpyridine parts are very important for interaction between organic compounds and octahedral coordination metals in metallosupramolecular materials. Therefore, it is expected that polymers containing terpyridine sites could collect the metals into the intentional positions and be used as effective polymer ligands. But, few well-defined polymers including terpyridine backbone were synthesized. In this research, the several polyethers having terpyridine sites could be prepared from the derivative 1 and diol compound without difficult operations. The polymers and the complexs with Fe(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) were examined by NMR, Mass, and UV.
