    Abstract

A lipophilic platinum(II) complex [PtCl(trpy-OC12)]BF 4 was newly developed. The complex was soluble in varied organic solvents and showed solvent-dependent absorption and luminescence characteristics. Optical and scanning electron microscopy of specimens dropped on solid supports indicated formation of nanowire structures in organic media. Exchange of chloride ion to less-coordinating ligand was also conducted, in order to prepare water-soluble self-assemblies.
