Abstract

A novel ruthenium sensitizer TUS-25 with a hexylthiophene-functionalized terpyridine ligand has been synthesized to improve the light-absorption ability of terpyridine-based ruthenium sensitizers. The incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency of the DSC with TUS-25 at around 400 nm was increased greatly by the introduction of two hexylthiophene units. The DSC with TUS-25 showed 7.5% conversion efficiency under AM 1.5 (100mWcm-2) irradiation.
