Gas sensors based on In 2O 3 nanoparticle thin films hybridized to organic component with various kinds of functional groups have been prepared. The thin films hybridized to organic component with amino group exhibit resistance increasing response to CO. On the other hand, they show resistance decreasing response to the other reducing gases such as H 2 and CH 4 due to the ordinary combustion mechanism. The response of the resistance increasing or decreasing to CO shown by the sensors depends on the type of functional group in the organic components. The hybridized thin films exhibiting the anomalous resistance increasing response to CO have functional groups with strong ability to form hydrogen bonding to the hydroxyl groups on the surface of the In 2O 3 nanoparticles. The organic hybridization to In2O3 with an appropriate microstucture could be an effective method for realizing gas selectivity.
