Abstract

The condensation process of orthoethylsilicate was studied by the trimethylsilylation (TMS) method at various reaction temperatures and at various concentrations of HCl or NH//3. The rate of disappearance and/or appearance of monomer, dimer and cyclic tetramer increased with rising reaction temperature. The molecular weight distribution curves of trimethylsilyl derivatives showed many peaks at the positions corresponding to fixed molecular weights, and the perk positions did not change with reaction temperatures. At both low and high pH ranges, the growth of particles, which were formed by hydrolysis, was observed.
