Abstract

We have investigated structures of uniformly rotating neutron stars with meson condensates. Since parameters pertinent to meson condensation are not uniquely determined, we have constructed equilibrium configurations by using several equations of state both for kaon condensation and for pion condensation. It should be noted that kaon condensation affects the equation of state considerably for most possible parameters of the equation of state, including those which are consistent with observational data such as the maximum mass of neutron stars. In particular we find that the maximum rotational velocity of uniformly rotating neutron stars with kaon condensates becomes larger by about 56% than that of the normal equation of state. Therefore future discovery of extremely fast pulsars might become evidence of the existence of meson condensates in the high density region.
