Abstract

µ-Oxo bridged dinuclear iron(III) complex with trialkylated tridentate ligand [Fe2(µ-O)(3C8-bzimpy)2Cl4]·CHCl3 (1, and 3C8-bzimpy = 2,6-bis(N-octylbenzimidazol-2′-yl)-4-octyloxypyridine) was synthesized and the magnetic property was investigated. Single crystal X-ray structural analysis of complex 1 revealed µ-oxo bridged dinuclear structure with N3OCl2 donor set. Complex 1 has constructed one-dimensional chain structure by CH–π interactions and CH–Cl hydrogen bonds, and further formed a two-dimensional layer parallel to the ab plane by fastener effect of trialkylated ligands. Magnetic susceptibility measurement of 1 showed the antiferromagnetic interactions through µ-oxo bridge, and the best fits for their behavior gave the following parameters: J = −12.7 cm− 1, g = 2.
