Abstract

The static and dynamic responses of an underwater half drop shaped shell have been examined as one of the feasibility studies of underwater structures in the future. The shape of the half drop shaped shell is determined so that the membrane stresses are uniform all over the shell in the membrane theory of axisymmetrical thin shells subjected to linearly varying hydrostatic external pressure along the depth and so that the surface of the is perpendicular to the horizontal plane.
