Abstract

Photon emission from a self-assembled monolayer of Cu-tetra-[3,5-di-t-butylphenyl]porphyrin (TBPP) molecules on Cu(100) by inelastic tunneling was observed on a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) system. The photon emission spectra and bias dependence of the photon intensity showed the existence of two radiative processes. The maximum quantum efficiency (QE) measured at sample bias voltage +4.5 V was ≅8.0×10-6 photons per tunneling electron.
