N2 - The International Symposia on 'Innovative Materials for Processes in Energy Systems' (IMPRES) held in Taormina, Sicily, Italy during October 23-26, 2016, was attended by leading energy experts who presented 6 plenary lectures and 164 contributed papers in 21 oral sessions and a poster session. A Special Session was devoted in the memory of Prof. Dr. Nicola Giordano, who was a world-renowned Italian scientist. The first 5 papers of this special issue are on adsorption fundamentals, followed by four papers on adsorption/desorption heat exchangers. Five papers present the development and/or performance investigation of adsorption cycles while the subsequent six papers deal with heat storage and thermal management. Desiccant systems and mechanical vapour compression chillers are also covered in some papers.
