Abstract
The application of vegetative measures is significant for natural slope stabilization. Re-vegetation techniques have gained wide attention because they are ecologically friendly, lower in cost and easy in techniques compared to expensive engineering works. This research is focused on examine the root strength characteristics of understory vegetation species in natural forest slopes of Mexico to find out proper native species for re-vegetation works to mitigate the impact of erosion and soil surface disturbance. In this study it was observed that species with higher value on their diameter of roots, numbers of roots and the ones who posses taproot as classification of roots indicate a higher pull out strength force therefore are recommendable for slope stabilization.
