Abstract

Functionalizing fullerenes: The first regioselective polyhydrogenation of [60]fullerene has been achieved. Upon treatment of [60]fullerene or its derivative with 9,10-dihydroanthracene in the presence of [Re 2(CO)10], transfer hydrometallation reaction takes place to give a polyhydrogenation product (see scheme). The reaction provided a pathway to a variety of metal η5 complexes of hydrofullerenes.
