Abstract

Genetic differentiation of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of 118 accessions of common wild rice (O.rufipogon Griff.) varieties and 76 cultivated rice (O.sativa L.) uarieties were studied by RFLP analysis using 7 probes from mitochondrial DNA of rice, wheat and pea. It was indicated that indica-japonica differentiation is the main trend in mtDNA of cultivated rice. In the 76 cultivars, mtDNA of 36 cultivars are indica-type, and mtDNA of 40 cultivars are japonica-type. For wild rice, mtDNA of 86 accessions is indica-type, 7 accessions are japonica-typs and 24 accessions are wild rice type.
