Abstract
The so-called reverse grading in debris flow with a wide size range of particles denotes the vertical segregation of particles produced by movements of coarser particles to the free surface and finer particles to the bottom. In this paper, the mechanism of reverse grading was examined by analyzing the vertical movements of particles. Experiments were also carried out in order to prove the theory and to investigate the characteristics of boulder accumulation at the front of debris flow.
