Abstract

The effects of film cooling in high enthalpy flows have been investigated experimentally and numerically. Finite catalytic surfaces are considered in both investigations. Film cooling in high enthalpy flows is shown to be effective for reduction of aerodynamic heating by experiments. Chemically and thermally nonequilibrium numerical computation has also been conducted. Numerical results show good agreement with experiments on the nearly noncatalytic surface. Experimental and numerical results show that the catalytic surface with film cooling acts as the noncatalytic surface owing to the existence of coolant gas layers.
