Recrystallization of 3104 aluminum alloy during compression at elevated temperature

Abstract

Double-hit isothermal compression tests of 3104 aluminum alloy at 400°C and 500°C with a strain rate of 0.01 s-1 and 0.1 s-1 and stain of 0.4 for each pass were conducted on a Gleeble-1500 simulator. The interval time between passes was 30 s, 60 s and 120 s. It was found that the static softening fraction in the interpass duration increases with increasing deformation temperature, strain rate, holding temperature and the interval time. An empirical recrystallization model with the recrystallization activation energy of 155 kJ/mol was proposed based on experiment.
