Abstract

In this study the relationships between temperature and respiration rate of green asparagus, cucumber fruits, pakchoi and leaf lettuce were investigated. The temperature dependence of respiration rate was discussed by Arrhenius' and Gore's equations. Results indicated that, before the break point increased the respiration rates exponentially by increasing temperature. The Arrhenius' and Gore's equation could be applied to determine the temperature dependence of respiration rate below the break point. The maximum and minimum Q10 were from 4.6 to 0.6, 4.4 to 1.0, 2.6 to 0.4 and 3.3 to 0.2 for green asparagus, cucumber fruit, pakchoi and leaf lettuce at the temperature range from 0 to 50°C. These results were different from that of published data.
