Abstract

Digitalization is going to revolutionize the process of manufacturing and service businesses in various industry fields including those, where combustion technology is relevant, such as energy, power and manufacturing. The industrial need for more advanced combustion modeling and simulation, which is the basis of digitalization, is getting stronger in order to quickly and efficiently develop products that meet the customers' needs. The Combustion Society of Japan led an industry-academia collaboration project for the development of a combustion simulation platform for advanced industrial design processes. Advanced proprietary models required for practical combustion modeling such as turbulent combustion, spray combustion and solid combustion, etc. were developed, implemented in a commercial code, and the results were verified by individual model flames and finally a model combustor. This project is followed by other collaborative projects and a national project, and contributes to strengthening the industry-academia combustion basis.
