    Abstract

Protein extraction was performed by a calix[6]arene carboxylic acid derivative in isooctane. Although the calixarene has a drawback in that it is not solubilized in aliphatic organic solvents, addition of alcohols overcomes the problem. The effect of alcohols on the extraction of cytochrome c (Cyt-c) was investigated with calix[6]arene in isooctane. Normal octanol provided the best result for the Cyt-c extraction. The pH value in the aqueous phase was one of the key operational factors in the liquid-liquid extraction process. It was confirmed that the extracted proteins maintain their biological activity during the extraction operation.
