Abstract

The cation exchange isotherm is a graph showing the relationship between the charge fraction of a cation adsorbed on an exchanger and that in the aqueous phase at a constant temperature and pressure. Showing exchange equilibrium data as an exchange isotherm is recognized as a standard way of presentation in cation exchange studies. The advantage of using cation exchange isotherms is that they help immediate understanding of ion exchange characteristics of an exchanger for different cations and the relative affinity of a cation for different exchangers.
