Abstract

Morphology of 2-component catenated copolymer is quite interesting, because it is expected that the catenated copolymer forms peculiar microphase-separated structure and interfacial structure comparing with regular block copolymers. The catenated copolymer consisting of poly(styrene-b-2-isopropenylnaphthalene) (polymer A) and polyisoprene (polymer B) was prepared using anionic polymerization as follows; (1) telechelic polymer A and B were prepared, (2) the telechelic A was cyclized by end-to-end closure to prepare cyclic polymer, (3) the cyclic polymer A was radical-anionized by the reaction with potassium in THF, and (4) telechelic polymer B was cyclized with radical-anionized ring polymer A in dilute condition. Formation of catenated polymer was confirmed by GPC by use of preferential detection of naphthalene by UV detector (λ=320nm).
