A unit preserving *-endomorphism a on the hyperfinite II j factor R is called a shift if. A shift o is called Powers’ binary shift if there is a self-adjoint unitary u such that. Let q(ॣ) be the number min. It is shown that the number q(ॣ) is not the complete outer conjugacy invariant for Powers* binary shifts.
