Abstract

Performance of a large-β dc SQUID is studied when a damping resistance in shunt with a SQUID inductance is introduced. In the presence of the damping resistance, the large-β SQUID can be used with little degradation of performance. The large-β SQUID relaxes the previous constraint in the design of the SQUID, and brings several merits when magnetometers are constructed with the SQUID.
