Abstract
Integration of macro and microcell seems to be a relevant method in the next generation of cellular systems, where higher traffic must be accommodated with a minimum effort of investment. In this paper, we theoretically analyze the system from viewpoint of capacity and probability that a required carrier to interference signal power ratio (CIR) can be maintained in both macrocell and microcell. TDMA or CDMA system is considered in the integrated system. The calculated results show that microcell can reuse the channels assigned to macrocell in TDMA system. In CDMA system, the site diversity between macrocell and microcell is required to obtain high capacity gain owing to the frequency reuse between micro and macrocells. This fact causes to lose the benefits of the macrocell system.
