N2 - The catalytic oxidative decomposition of chloropentafluoroethane (CFC-115) was carried out in the presence of butane. Alumina-zirconia exhibited the highest activity among alumina-based oxides (alumina-boria, alumina-titania, alumina-zirconia, and γ-alumina). When metal oxides were supported on the alumina-zirconia, tungsten(VI) oxide alone had a positive effect on the activity. This tungsten(VI) oxide catalyst was found to be the most active of all the catalysts which had so far been examined, and to keep an activity for the CFC-115 decomposition as high as about 85% conversion all through the reaction.
