Abstract

The improvement of the safety especially during the berthing and mooring operation is quite important when the ship comes near the quay for loading or unloading of the cargo. The new mooring support system adopts the electric mooring winch controlled by the inverter equipment in order to improve the laboring efficiency and secure the safety during berthing and mooring operation. The mooring winch is equipped with the tension meter. The mooring winch can be controlled accurately by the electric signal from the inverter using the high strength synthetic fiber rope with very small elongation. The multiple CCD cameras installed on the upper-deck can monitor the position of the ship by the image analysis using the personal computer. The tension of the moorng rope and the position of the ship can also be monitored on the bridge deck. The concept of the new mooring support system is introduced in the paper.
