Abstract
An automatic workpiece feed-rate control system has been developed to produce a desired surface roughness in routing in this study. A sensing techique of acoustic emission (AE) signals was applied to monitor the machining process continuously. For the sensing of AE signals, a non-contact technique using a microphone was tried in place of the contact technique with a transducer generally-used. Adaptive control takes place in the system developed for routing by using the linear regressions of the AE count rate on the workpiece feed-rate and the regressions of surface roughnesses on the workpiece feed-rate. The desired surface roughness is produced by the automatic control of the workpiece feed-rate, using AE signals, as the sensing technique.
