Abstract

Pool boiling heat transfer in confined space is systematically investigated for vertical narrow space between parallel flat planes, one of which is heated and the other is unheated. Experiments for water at atmospheric pressure are performed at heat flux range up to the critical on heating surfaces with width of 30mm, and heights of 30 and 120mm, and gap sizes of 5. 0. 2. 0, 0. 6, and 0. 15mm. Periphery of heating surface is open in one experiment, and closed at the bottom and the sides in another experiment. Based on the observation and measurements, the general behavior of boiling characteristics, and the heat transfer mechanisms and models are presented and discussed.
