Multi-bands antenna for metal-rimmed handset terminals

Abstract

This article proposes a compact hepta-band antenna for unbroken metal-rimmed mobile applications. The proposed antenna includes a vertical copper plate, an open slot and printed multi-branches on both sides of the substrate. The 1-λ bezel mode is employed to cover the GSM850/900 operating bands. By combining the different modes of the multiple branches, the proposed antenna is capable of covering GSM1800/1900, UMTS, GSM2300/2500 bands. Besides, a design strategy for enhancing the bandwidth of lower and higher bands is introduced. The mentioned structures are combined on the 122 × 60 mm2 substrate board without lumped elements. The measured results show our proposed antenna achieves three-wide bandwidths, which typically agree with the simulation results. Meanwhile, the performances of radiation patterns, efficiencies, and gains are also obtained.
